Gummy to release OST for ‘That Winter, The Wind Blows’

Talented singer Gummy will be lending her voice for the soundtrack of SBS’ drama ‘That Winter, The Wind Blows’.

According to YG Entertainment’s official blog on February 20, Gummy will release her OST single titled “Snow Flower” on the 27th. The song was produced by Choi Kap Won and Kim Sae Jin PJ, who previously made Baek Ji Young’s “Don’t Forget Me” for ‘IRIS’.

“Snow Flower” will serve as the theme song for the romance between the characters of Cho In Sung and Song Hye Kyo. The song will be played on the upcoming fourth episode of the drama on February 20th before its official release.

Psy’s “Gangnam Style” becomes UK’s 1st million seller by an Asian singer

Psy’s mega-hit “Gangnam Style” has now sold over a million copies in the United Kingdom.

According to Official Charts Company sales data, “Gangnam Style” has broken through the million copies sales barrier to become the UK’s 129th million selling single, and first million seller by an Asian music star.

Martin Talbot, the managing director of the Official Charts Company commented, “This is an amazing achievement by Psy. It is further confirmation of Gangnam Style as a true phenomenon – it is the first UK million-seller by an Asian music star, and a sign that K-Pop has truly arrived in the UK!”

While “Gangnam Style” only remained at Number 1 for a week, it spent a further 17 weeks in the Top 10 and was the UK’s sixth biggest selling single of 2012. To date, “Gangnam Style” has spent 21 weeks on the Official Singles Chart Top 40.

Wonder Girls’ Yubin finishes her first filming for ‘The Virus’

Wonder Girls’ Yubin will be making her acting debut through cable channel OCN’s upcoming original TV series ‘The Virus’. She wrapped up her first filming session and a still cut of her drama character has been revealed.

Yubin will play the role of the genius hacker and IT specialist Lee Joo Young. It is said that Lee Joo Young is a key character who supports Um Gi Jun (Lee Myung Hun)’s work.

She posted on her Twitter, “I successfully finished my very first drama filming. The first filming for ‘The Virus’ was from the 5th until today. I was nervous but the staff members and other actors took such good care of me that it went well.”

Daesung's Japanese Solo Album [D'scover] revealed!

          

BIGBANG's Daesung (D-Lite) will be making his solo Japanese debut in 2013 and now the album covers have been revealed.
His debut Japanese solo album 'D'scover' will be released on February 27. Daesung's Japanese album will be composed of 12 songs in all, including rearrangements of J-Pop music as well as his original solo songs, "Baby Don’t Cry" and "Wings".
Also, Daesung will be holding his first solo concerts at Kobe's World Memorial Hall from March 23 ~24 and the Tokyo Nippon Budokan from March 30~31.


대성, 오는 2월 27일 일본에서 솔로 데뷔앨범 [디스커버(D'scover)] 발매

대 성은 오는 2월 27일에는 일본에서 솔로 데뷔앨범 ’디스커버(D’scover)’을 발매한다. 타이틀 곡은 사이토 카즈요시가 1997년에 발표한 '우타우타이노바랏도(歌うたいのバラッド)' 로 발표 당시 일본에서 공전의 히트를 기록한 노래다. 대성은 포크 스타일의 원곡을 록 발라드 스타일로 편곡, 애절함을 더해 소화했다.
이번 앨범은 J-팝 곡들의 리메이크 하는 형식으로 발매되는 앨범이다.
이 밖에도 빅뱅 음반에 실었던 대성의 솔로곡 ’날개’, ’베이비 돈트 크라이(Baby Don’t Cry)’를 포함해 총 12곡을 실릴 예정이다.
한편 대성은 3월 23, 24일 고베 월드 기념홀, 30, 31일 도쿄 부도칸에서 단독공연을 열 예정이다.

Big Bang's World Tour - 12 countries, 800,000 audience and 80 billion won revenue

Greatest Scale in Korean Music


800,000 fans. That is the amount of fans the group BIGBANG met through their concert last year. Big Bang has visited 12 countries and 24 cities from small countries to big countries with varying populations. This was the first time a Korean artist had brought out this many audiences. Unlike other idol groups that only tour around Asian countries, Big Bang even reached to America, South America and UK. Big Bang, as an idol, successfully held a world tour that only pop stars like Lady Gaga or Beyonce could hold.
Big Bang started off their tour “BIGBANG ALIVE GALAXY TOUR” in March last year in Seoul. After going to Japan, China, Indonesia and many other Asian countries, they crossed the Pacific and landed on America. After selling out all four concerts (50,000 crowds) in LA and NJ, they continued their tour to Lima, Peru and London, England. And finally, Big Bang finished their long journey at Seoul Olympic Gymnasium on January 27th.
In this tour, Bigbang worked with Live Nation, production agency that produced tours of famous pop stars like Lady Gaga. Every show, 445 staffs were involved. Big Bang performed and sang live 2 hours and 30 minutes on every show, in 48 shows, which in total is about 7200 minutes. All 48 shows were completely sold out. Estimating that each ticket was about 100,000 won, Big Bang’s revenue for this tour is estimated to be about 80 billion won (Note: Not yet counting revenue from merchandise).





It was very amusing that Big Bang was able to sell out in Europe and South America because Korean artists had never reached out to those parts of the world. In 2008, when Wonder Girls went to America, their tour was a small club tour for promotion. In 2010, many Idol groups were trying to appeal to the global market and spread K-pop all over the world but they could only appeal to Asia. Only artist that was able to target countries outside of Asia was Psy. However, if Big Bang sold out all 60,000 seats in England and America, that means they have a plenty of fans that are willing to pay for the expensive tickets. The staffs said “Having 12,000 audiences in each show cannot be covered with invitations.”
Big Bang also received a favorable notice from the press in many countries that they can proudly compare Big Bang’s tour to other pop stars. New Yorker said, “G-Dragon is like the Lady Gaga of Korea.” New York Times also chose Big Bang’s Alive tour as one of the Best concerts of 2012. And The Guardian from England rated Big Bang’s concert with 4 stars out of 5.
Music critic, Han Dong Yoon said, “It was rare for one Idol group to sell out their tickets globally and continuously like Big Bang. Also, the fact that they could sing and dance live in all 48 tours proves their skills as an artist. This shows that Big Bang has the possibility to go beyond Korea and compete with other pop stars.”
